Sihanoukville

Posted by justin

We made the 8am, four hour speedboat journey to Sihanoukville for 500 baht. The speedboat is really more a rivercat than anything else. In fact it was not designed to be operated at speed across the high seas.

That became increasingly obvious as we motored out of the river system and started to cop the ocean swells. It made for an interesting journey, but for us Northern Beaches types used to Sydney ferries that crash with monotonous regularity into headlands and wharfs and piers it was nuttin'. (Except for the woman in front who was permanently dry-retching and fell unconscious at one point only to have the friendly speedboat employees administering what seemed to be an interesting version of CPR).

Once we hit Sihanoukville we took a rain-soaked moto trip across town to Ochheuteal beach before deciding to head over to Victory beach - the older backpacker quarter of this town.
