Hanoi
Posted by justinWe arrived in Hanoi this morning, and it looks like hitting 38 degrees. From our first few hours here it seems like a superb city. We managed an early morning walk around an inner-city park and lake - their answer to Sydney's Hyde Park it seems.
The streets are a lot calmer than HCMC, and everything and everyone seems a little more sedate. One of the first things we've noticed is each street sells only one thing - so you walk down shoe street, or toy street, or hair-clip street. We're off to find digital camera street to see if I can get a quality camera around the 5-8 megapixel in the prosumer range (while we're at it I'd also like an inbuilt GPS system to record country, city, street name where the photo was taken and wireless connectivity to a time-of-day service and automatic upload of photos feature to an ftp server of your choice). I'm thinking along the lines of a Sony F828 but if anyone out there has suggestions fire away.
With all this heat it's amazing the usual ice delivery business so common in SE Asia still have a product to deliver.
Have to say although we're use to the climate we miss the beaches of Nha Trang. Especially that day boat trip to the islands - the "floating bar" and feast although we avoided the sea urchin soup.
Here's another gratuitious image of some Dragon Fruit - the weirdest looking fruit we've come across so far.
Danielle stopping for a photo op on our way riding back from the beach to Hoi An.
Oh, the pics we managed to take of Angkor Wat are worth having a look at - it really is an amazing historical site. Stone carvings like this are everywhere.
One particular temple has been left to slowly be consumed by nature - unbelievable!
Justin, have thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures and the great photos your taking. Thank you for sharing this with us. I remember some of the stories from Danielle's last visit to Angkor Wat a few years back!
Keep up the good work. It's a very interesting travel diary.
