Himalayan vistas

It's no thing getting up at 3:30am this morning. We must beat the jeep-convoy-rush from the hill-station of Darjeeling (2134m) to Tiger Hill look-out (2590m). Elevation becomes important around these parts.

Eleven kilometres on a bent and twisted, single-lane, crumbling, rutted road. Thank God our mini-van is mini-sized.We don't make it all the way to the top for the jeeps, buses, and vans already there. A brisk walk up knowing that it's already been said - the crowds up on Tiger Hill of a morning are like an Indian rock concert.
It doesn't matter though because to get up there and see the sun rise over the Himalayas; to see snow-capped Khangchendzonga rise into the sky with all the majesty of her 8598 metres; to see, in the distance, Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse(8501m), the heavens....
