Having Fun Kids?

I found this story written on a crumpled bit of paper - discarded on the
beach at Haad Rin. Before the local kids had time to throw it away I
retrieved it, re-typed it, and clicked 'post':

Haad Rin

Just a quick recap and some pics. Left Bottle beach to head to one of the east-coast beaches for two nights. Our greatest achievement was hanging up five hammocks without any damage to persons or bungalows.

Weather got a little overcast so we went for a change of scenery in the hope of a change in weather. Which of course worked with some nice weather yesterday. Last night had a few drinks at our bungalow on the eastern headland of the main beach - located just above the Mellow Mountain bar.

Oh, here's a pic of Tommys, and Palitas we took this morning. Will suss out if the owner's niece is still looking for a husband Glenn.

Happy 21st bro

You know, as you sell off and hike out of your little town called Australia you reflect on your previous life. Think about circles of friends, and family, and day-to-day life.

Beach bums

After two months of backpacking around SE Asia, we really have earnt our "holiday within a holiday". After all, we really do need a vacation from all of this backpacking! We're now on Koh Pha Ngan, one of the south-eastern islands of Thailand and are naturally indulging in the island lifestyle.

Northern Exposures #2

Well blow the budget. Even if it is two baht a minute for internet access and we're trying to maintain a fifteen dollar a day per capita expenditure for this city-state of two people in paradise, well do it. For the readers. Here are some pics of the first half of our travels in Laos - from recollection assorted snaps around Vang Vieng in Laos.

Koh Pha Ngan

It didn't take too long for us to get over the smog, heat, and hassles of Bangkok again before we jumped on an overnight bus down to Surat Thani, and a boat across to Koh Pha Ngan. The sand's so white you definitely do need sunnies on a midday walk, and the water's as blue, and turquiose, and aqua as the brochures say.

Northern exposures

Halong bay, Vietnam. Last time we will ever get caught in a tourist trap - I swear! Superb scenery but like most of Vietnam has been colonized by thousands of tour operators, making you feel like you're part of the blue-rinse set hoping off the tourist bus to take a few pics and have a pee. Danielle took it all in her stride though.

La Kawn, Laos

We left Laos for Thailand a few days ago. Stuck here now in Chiang Rai with a touch of the flu. Will probably bus it to Bangkok tomorrow and hole up in an internet cafe to put down some words and send up some pics before having a holiday around the southern islands. I think we deserve a holiday, no?

By the way, La Kawn is my best attempt at a clever cultural reference - means 'leaving first' in Laotian.
